About Queensland's planning system
Queensland's planning system runs under the Planning Act 2016 with each of the 77 local government areas operating its own planning scheme. Above the LGA layer, the State Planning Policy (SPP) and state development areas overlay land-use decisions on a state-wide basis.
Development is classified as accepted (no DA needed), code-assessable (assessed against codes only), or impact-assessable (public notification + merit assessment).
